Iamlivingart is a long-term time-based collaborative artistic “performance” emerging over the month(s) of the exhibit. It is a tribute to Living Arts’ 55 year legacy fostering a spirit of creative experimentation and collaboration. Drawing from founder Virginia Meyers’ philosophy of art and education and belief that everyone is an artist, and in the value of open-ended inquiry and curiosity and engaging what Virginia like to call our “right brained” creative side. These kinds of practices have been integral in Living Arts’ education philosophy, in programs such as ARTCore, ARTCore school residencies and New Arts Camps.

The installation is also inspired by the many groundbreaking post-modern and contemporary artists that Living Arts has championed and brought to Tulsa over the years (including Marina Abramovic, Joan Jonas, Meredith Monk, John Cage, Pauline Oliveros and so many others), breathing life into our culture starved Mid-American community and inspiring generations of Tulsa artists with new ways of art-making and looking at art, that embrace experimentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and where the artist/viewer/participant lines are often blurred and participants become an integral part of the work.
