Jessica Davenport [ArtBaby Performance] is an inter-disciplinary artist working primarily in performance. She also works frequently as community arts educator and advocate, and arts integration specialist. She has an MFA in Directing from the University of Oklahoma, and a Bachelor of Science in Drama/TV/Film Performance. She frequently collaborates with artists across disciplines in the creation and development of new performance work.
Though influenced by her background in theatre, Jessica’s work is very movement based and choreographic. She is inspired by dance, and its particularly conceptual performance aesthetic and emphasis on the abstraction of ideas. She also draws from her experience in theatrical design and craft, creating performance and installations based around costume, object, and structures.
Jessica’s performance/installation work examines the ties between the deeply personal and the universal. Her current practice wrestles with questions relating to the growing global phenomena of existential dread and anxiety, juxtaposed with the overarching presence of uncontrollable forces. Jessica’s character, <Figure A>, is the embodiment of these, and appears in various iterations and performance mediums and spaces.
Jessica currently resides in NorthWest Arkansas, and continues to work frequently in her hometown of Tulsa.
